Lysol Minilabs — STEM Kits for Kids
2024/25
Lysol | McCann New York | The Giant Room
As part of the sixth year of Lysol’s HERE for Healthy Schools initiative, we partnered with The GIANT Room to design and launch the Lysol Minilabs Science Kits—an educational tool aimed at helping young students understand the science of germs and develop healthy hygiene habits through hands-on, engaging learning.
Created specifically for grades 1–2 in Title I schools, the kits were informed by a collaborative design process that included co-design sessions with teachers, students, and families. Each kit includes NGSS-aligned lesson plans, classroom-wide materials, original comics, and science-based activities. The goal: to make science and hygiene both accessible and memorable for early learners. The feedback shaped everything—from content themes (Germs in the Classroom, for example), to the tone of the activities, to the illustrated comics that make complex ideas feel approachable and age-appropriate.

Three themed kits are distributed across the school year, each focusing on a different facet of health and hygiene (e.g., Germs in the Classroom). The kits are designed to integrate seamlessly into existing curricula, equipping educators with ready-to-use tools that are both pedagogically sound and engaging for young learners.
The initiative was launched with a media event that also served as a live co-design session, featuring families, educators, and actor Keegan-Michael Key, highlighting the community-centered design approach behind the program. By combining educational strategy, thoughtful design, and meaningful collaboration, the Lysol Minilabs Science Kits represent a scalable model for improving health literacy and fostering behavior change in early education.
